Absent Fathers: The Real Reason for America's Cultural Decline

There is an ongoing debate in America about what is responsible for our cultural decline. Some blame politicians, but the real answer lies right in front of us.

Here it is: In every state, the portion of families where children have two parents, not one, has dropped significantly over the past decade. The Washington Times reports the number of two-parent households since just the early 2000s has decreased by 1.2 million. In Washington, one in 10 children live with both parents. America is awash in crime, poverty, drugs and other problems, much of it traceable to no fathers.

Television is virtually all-female. The morning and syndicated shows are about women. Men have been feminized. They don't know what it means to be a man anymore, much less a husband or father. Boys are marginalized in favor of girls. More females than males now attend college.

This is the source of the problem. No one person or politician can fix it. Only coming to our senses will.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
