Be Separate

December 19, 2006

‘Come out from among them and be separate” is advice given by the Apostle Paul. It is advice that has been taken by several Episcopal congregations in Virginia after the denomination ordained a homosexual bishop and authorized same-sex unions.

The two largest, Truro and the Falls Church in Northern Virginia, may be forced to pay a price. One usually does when one follows the ways of God and not the world as the Episcopalian leadership is doing. The churches may have to give up their valuable buildings. But isn’t it better to meet in a tent than in a white washed tomb? Isn’t it better to do what is right in god’s sight than to be more concerned with the value of property?

Orthodoxy is something we don’t see much of in our day. The conservative Episcopal churches have asked to be under the authority of a Nigerian bishop who has castigated the American church for departing from the word of god. Looks like he took seriously what the missionaries taught him. Too bad the Episcopal leadership in America didn’t. Maybe Nigeria will send missionaries to them.
