I have a diagnosis top make of America’s problem: too many of us are politically bipolar. How else to explain this latest Gallup survey that says 72 percent of us believe big government is the greatest threat to the country; bigger by far than the debt and any other problem.
Why do I say we are politically bipolar? Because we keep electing the same people over and over again whose votes and policies have led to bigger government. It isnt Republican vs. Democrat. If it were, republicans would do something about big government when they have the power, but they don’t. Whether they are afraid of the media, or their own shadow, they might slightly reduce big government but they never substantially reduce its size. They didn’t the last time they held majorities in congress and George W. Bush was president and I’m not sure they will if they take back the Senate next year and the White House in 2014.
Big government is a threat because too many people don’t think when they vote and don’t take the time to inform themselves. They’re bipolar politically.
