The Answer to Struggling Businesses

It is the first of November. With just five days to go before a very important election, both major party candidates are pulling out the stops in an attempt to win. The momentum has clearly shifted toward Mitt Romney and in some states like Pennsylvania that just a month ago seemed beyond his reach, things are shifting markedly.

President Obama, who reads the polls, has proposed a secretary of business. Clearly he is worried about the small business vote, which is rapidly evaporating, if he ever had a majority of it.

As the Wall Street Journal noted, we already have a cabinet-level position devoted to business. It's called the Department of Commerce. This always a liberal's answer to everything. If government isn't working, the answer must be more government. It's like education. Are government schools costing more and performing less? The problem must be they aren't getting enough money.

The answer to struggling businesses isn't another cabinet department. It is reducing their taxes and regulations so they can produce more products and services in America that people want to buy.
