It's no secret that a double standard exists when it comes to the way female Republican politicians are treated vs. female Democrats.
The latest example: The now-former head of the South Carolina Democratic Party, one Dick Harpootlian, said that Gov. Nikki Haley should go back to where she came from. When some thought he was referring to her ethnicity -- she is Indian-American and the daughter of Sikh immigrants -- he clarified his remarks on MSNBC, saying he meant she should "go back to being an accountant in a dress store rather than being this fraud of a governor that we have." Oh, that's much better. At last year's Democratic convention, Harpootlian compared Haley to Hitler's mistress because she participated in a press conference from a basement TV studio at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte. Harpootlian said she was "down in the bunker a la Eva Braun."
Imagine if a Republican had said that about a Democrat woman. He'd be called a sexist and worse.
