Why Do Events Like the One in Boston Happen?

After incidents like what happened in Boston on Monday people always want to know why. While suspects are hunted, the professional and amateur sociologists and psychiatrists try out explanations.

It isn't all that difficult. Evil exists. When evil is encouraged in media depictions and in the outworking of political grievances and misguided religious direction, we get more evil. Once, no one thought about safety caps on aspirin bottles and those irritating seals you have to peel off just about everything you consume. It took just a couple people putting poison on those bottles to change the packaging.

Where is the good, the wholesome and the righteous exist in our culture today? We promote the tawdry and the offensive, or as C.S. Lewis put it: "We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst."

A twisted culture encourages twisted minds to conduct twisted deeds. Denying evil won't make it go away. Promoting good might overcome some of it.
