We must not miss the true meaning of the Gosnell trial. It is true that Dr. Gosnell was found guilty of his crimes -- at least the crimes successfully prosecuted in Pennsylvania. But in reality the whole nation was on trial, and we are all guilty.

Sadly, we're discovering that the IRS has been less than scrupulous in its treatment of conservative non-profits in recent years. About 75 groups with "tea party" or "patriot" in their names received extra IRS screening between 2010 and 2012.

Things are getting a little hot for the Obama administration. The talking points about the Benghazi terrorist attack were massaged 12 times to expunge them of references to terrorism. Then we hear that the Internal Revenue Service has been giving extra scrutiny to tax-exempt organizations with "tea party" or "patriot" in their names.

They say a picture's worth a thousand words. That's especially true when it comes to abortion.

Looking for evidence that our society is losing its mind? Just look at the controversy over so-called "emergency contraceptives" and a federal judge's effort to make these drugs available, over the counter, to girls of any age.

The FDA approved the sale of Plan B, the so-called "morning-after pill," over the counter to girls as young as 15 years old. Somehow lost in this news coverage, however, is the fact that Plan B can cause abortions.

It is this underlying belief in human dignity, founded upon the Judeo-Christian understanding of what it means to be a person, that informs our nation's most essential affirmation: That all men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.

A sports celebrity took a courageous stand last week, but it wasn't the one we heard the most about.

"I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for 10 years, and I'm, I'm here, I'm free now. ... I'm Amanda Berry. I've been on the news for the last 10 years." This 911 call set police in motion to free Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, three women from the Cleveland area who were abducted in separate crimes between 2002 and 2004.

Patriotism informed by a Christian view of God, life and the world is an honorable thing. It is about love, loyalty and thankfulness.

Somebody once said that a man's work is from sun to sun, but a mother's work is never done. That sounds about right. Mothers are modern-day heroes!

I had never heard of Jason Collins until he announced he is homosexual, or gay, as they say. He's a journeyman ballplayer now with the Washington Wizards. He doesn't play much but since his announcement the sports and mainstream media have gone crazy hailing Collins as some superhero.
