Islamist extremists want Iraq to be a "Muslim only" country, and as a result, Christians in Iraq remain continuous targets of violent attacks.

The World Evangelical Alliance's human rights ambassador has warned that Christians are being "chased from their homes" in Syria.

Iraq had 300 churches and 1.4 million Christians in 2003, but now only 57 churches and about half a million Christians remain, with members of the minority fleeing Islamist attacks.

As a result, thousands of Christians have left the Iraqi city since 2003 when U.S. forces deposed Saddam Hussein. The war triggered a wave of continuous violence in the second largest city in Iraq.

The U.S. is facing some tough decisions when it comes to Syria. And so are some Syrian Christians.
