Today, on the Veterans Day holiday, I’d like you to hear about the bravery of our wounded vets.

As Veterans Day approaches, denominational leaders and chaplains with years of military service are calling on more churches to find ways to minister to the men and women who have recently returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Operation Heal Our Patriots, a new ministry initiative by Samaritan's Purse, is working to reverse the staggering divorce rates of wounded U.S. military members.

"Civilians often don't understand that ... our troops must now come home and fight for their marriages," Air Force wife Valerie Gaff of Family Life said.

In the process of doing some research, one of my colleagues came across a poignant Veterans Day tribute. It dates back over 45 years, but the sentiments are powerful and timeless.

To have served in our military is a high calling. Veterans stand in a long line of patriots and they deserve our respect and admiration.

We see the obvious price they’ve paid, but what we don’t see are their psychological wounds.

Often we don't pause to ponder the meaning of these commemorative days, but Nov. 11, 1987, is when Veterans Day became special to me.
